"Small opportunities are often the beginning of great enterprises." -Demosthenes
Nafisi – meaning “opportunity” in Swahili – is a new organization working to extend educational and financial services to Tanzanians who are excluded from formal educational or financial networks so that they may have the chance to lift themselves out of poverty. In this way, Tanzanians who otherwise are unable to receive education or build their entrepreneurial skills will be able to access a global network of opportunity.
By partnering with individuals, organizations, and informal networks, we serve the Mwenge community in Dar es Salaam in the following ways:
- Provide free English education via the Mwenge English class.
- Provide classroom necessities such as books, notebooks, and chalkboards.
- Provide interest-free microcredit to the poorest of the poor excluded by the formal financial sector through a sub-project called Investours.
- Provide cross-cultural educational experiences for both Tanzanians and foreign volunteers.
- Act as ambassadors for the students and entreprenuers, connecting them with international sponsors, donors, and volunteers
- Raise funds to support and improve the English class and to provide microloans.
